After a rough start to the Spring 2025 season, Amarillo College Badgers Baseball has turned a corner and brought their record to 14-14 with seven wins and one loss in the past two weeks.
Claiming a second conference sweep in the team’s history, the Badgers won all four games against Frank Phillips College on March 7 and 10, carrying that success into the next games, the Badgers scored three wins and had one loss against Western Texas College on March 15 and 16.
The Badgers hit 11 homers and scored a program-record 68 runs en route to a 4-0 start in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference at West Texas A&M’s Wilder Park.
According to Head Coach Brandon Rains, the team has continued to show their performance at the games. “There’s no question we’re one of the top offenses in the country,” he said. “We have sophomores with an abundance of experience, and they’re firing on all cylinders.”
AC claimed its first run-rule victory of the series via a 19-9 game two win to conclude play on Friday. The Badgers scratched out seven hits in the first inning, including a two-run homer by Payton Bush, a business administration major, to take an 8-2 lead after one frame. Along with Bush, multiple other players had significant career success.
Business Major Ja’Marcus Smith achieved four strike-outs while also getting a zero in the walk column, earning him his first win as a Badger. “Overall, we’re hoping to get more consistent as the season progresses with the rest of our pitchers,” Rains said.
Business Administration major Trent Bower picked up the second win of his freshman year. Officials said Bower was spotless during his four-inning stint as the game-three starter.
“We need to work out as a team, and I think it helps us get better. We also need little things to improve,” Gerardo Prado, a general studies major, said.
The Badgers will play against El Paso Community College on March 22 and 23 for a doubleheader at West Texas A&M University. AC students, faculty and staff get in home games for free with an AC ID. For more information on upcoming games, go to acbadgers.com
