The Amarillo College Theatre Program took 14 students to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival or KCACTF Region 6 in Abilene from Feb. 23-28 at the Abilene Convention Center.
KCACTF offers learning opportunities for many aspects of theatre. “The events that took place at KCACTF were multiple different things for theatre like certain workshops for acting, tech theatre and even some Shakespeare,” Talon Russell, a performance major, said.
The conference also offered multiple scholarship opportunities, like the Irene Ryan scholarship. The scholarship also comes with an invite to the national festival.
“I participated in an acting audition for the Irene Ryan scholarship,” Brionna Todd, a general theatre major, said. “One of my classmates also participated, and she and her partner became the first finalists from our school since the 80s.”
The festival also allows students to meet other college theatre students and learn about their programs.
“What I enjoyed most about KCACTF is getting to meet so many new people and getting
to network and learning just how beautiful the art of theatre is,” Russell said.
KCACTF allows theatre students from other two-year institutions to meet. “The festival also offers the opportunity to network with the other schools from our region, which is especially beneficial to transfer students,” Todd said.
