On March 7, Netflix released “Plankton: The Movie,” a “SpongeBob Squarepants” spinoff that has climbed to No. 2 As a long-time Spongebob fan, I knew I had to watch this new twist on it as soon as I found out about it, especially since I was quite impressed with the first three movies.

The movie stars Douglas Lawrence, professionally known as Mr. Lawrence, as Plankton; Jill Tally as Karen
and Tom Kenny as Spongebob. In this adventurous retelling of the Spongebob Squarepants universe, Plankton finds himself in a sticky situation when his computer wife, Karen, decides to set out for world domination without him. Together, Plankton and Spongebob, along with other beloved characters, must
team up to stop Karen and save Bikini Bottom.

The main thing that caught my attention when watching the movie was the voice acting and storyline. Just like in the original show, each cast member played their parts perfectly in a way that exceeded my expectations. The most fascinating moment was finally getting to learn how Karen was created since that was never revealed before. I also enjoyed the Plankton and Spongebob team-up throughout the film and the innovative animation techniques.

In addition to the acting and storyline, I enjoyed the themes presented throughout the movie, such as ambition, adversity and the importance of empathy and kindness. The film emphasizes that resolving conflict and misunderstandings in a relationship is crucial. This is shown through Plankton’s journey to fix things with Karen as fans are introduced to a more compassionate side of him rather than the cold-hearted villain he is usually portrayed as. This was a really good twist on his character which kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Of course, Spongebob productions wouldn’t be where it is today without music. The show is known for its catchy tunes and this one was truly no exception. My favorite songs in the movie were “Welcome To Bikini Bottom,” “I’m Plankton” and “I Made A New Friend.”

Since its release, this spin-off in the “Spongebob Squarepants” series has become increasingly popular. In the week between March 3 and March 9, “Plankton: The Movie” topped the charts globally. Despite only premiering on March 7, it managed to get 14.3 million views with 21 million hours viewed.

It is considered a gem by both original Spongebob fans and those who are new to Plankton’s world with an approval score of 71%. This proves that the franchise is still popular to this day.

Overall, I enjoyed “Plankton: The Movie” and I believe that it is 100% worth watching. Every “Spongebob” fan will without a doubt love this film and I am so happy that I gave it a chance.
