Daniel Esquivel, dean of campus operations in Hereford, died on Jan. 27.

“Daniel was a great man who was the definition of loving students to success,” Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, Amarillo College president, said. “He loved Amarillo College and Amarillo College loved him.”

Esquivel started working for AC as the executive director of the Hereford campus in the old Shirley Elementary School before the current building opened in spring 2014. During his tenure, Esquivel was deeply committed to loving ACstudents and to serving the Hereford community, his colleagues, and those who worked for him, according to Frank Sobey, associate vice president of academic affairs.

“Our shock and heartbreak speak to the depths of that love. I will miss him. We all will,” said  Lowery-Hart.

To honor Esquivel’s legacy of service, the Amarillo College Foundation has renamed a scholarship dedicated to Hereford students to be the Daniel Esquivel Memorial Scholarship Fund, according to Sobey.
