The Spring rush is coming

Late registration is a significant issue for students’ success rate and it was an issue addressed by the No Excuses program.

This fall was the first semester Amarillo College did not allow registration after the first day of classes, and there was not much difference in student registration between this and fall 2011, said Joe Wyatt, AC communications coordinator.

“This year’s fall semester and last year’s fall semester had a 25-student difference, which made the rate steady,” he said.

Students who were not accepted into AC because they were late registering were given other options.

“Students can enroll in Fall II and Spring II classes if they are late registering for the fall and spring semesters,” Wyatt said.

Fall II classes started Monday, and Spring II classes will start March 18. Anyone, not just students who are late registering, can sign up for Fall II or Spring II classes.

Wyatt said students who sign up on time have a higher success rate. Repealing the late registration policy is one of several strategies AC has identified to improve student success.

“We want students to succeed,” Wyatt said. “So we cut off late registration.”

Registration for the spring semester will start Nov. 12, so students should make appointments with academic advisers as soon as possible.
