Wednesday, Nov. 14 is the deadline for registering for the Amarillo College Student Leadership retreat, which will take place at the Talon Point Retreat Facility, in Channing, TX from Friday, Nov. 16 through Nov. 17. There will be a $20 attendance fee for the retreat, with food and lodging covered by Student Life.

Students will learn how to develop and utilize their skills to be leaders in their classes and outside of school. Jenna Welch, Student Life specialist, said she believes that this is an amazing experience for the students. and that every student interested in going should go. They will learn a lot by going to the retreat, she said.

“I hope that the students also learn that leadership does not only mean leading others, but also leading themselves and fulfilling their potential as individuals,” Welch said. “The retreat is open to all students and certainly everyone that attends finds it motivating and worth their time.”

During the retreat the students will receive hands-on training that they may not get anywhere else, Welch said. The retreat also gives the opportunity for the students to meet new people and get to know them outside of the classroom, she added.

Haleigh Steadman, president of Phi Theta Kappa, attended the retreat last semester. She said it was worth the $20 investment. “We learned to work fast and efficiently as a group. I made a lot of new friends when I went in the spring semester of 2018. I plan on going in November. It helps the students get involved with the school and the different clubs on campus,” she said.

To register for the retreat, contact Jenna Welch at  jenna.welch@actx.edu or 806-371-5259 or go by her office in the CUB basement. Space is limited. Payment is required at the time of registration and is open to the first 75 students.
