Let the ‘Purge’ commence

Purge Anarchy StillA great summer movie to go see is The Purge: Anarchy. It is an interesting movie that really has made a major impact in the United States. Up-and-coming stars such as Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford and many other cast members play major roles.
The plot is set on a national “purge” day in the United States. People are allotted 12 hours to commit any known crime while all emergency services are suspended. The government feels having the annual event will cause crime rates to go down tremendously.
Grillo plays the main character. He is out to avenge the murder of his son, which took place during the previous purge.
Along the way, he forms unlikely alliances that help him and others survive the remainder of the night. Actors such as Ejogo and Gilford help Grillo’s character through the tasks at hand.
The action sequences are set up well enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. There never seems to be a dull moment throughout the movie. There are interesting parts, and if you like on-screen killing, it definitely is there.
This movie, believe it or not, has had a societal impact in the United States. Communities around the country have addressed fliers and posts on social media warning of an upcoming “purge.” When movies like this are released, it makes you reflect on the problems that are apparent in real life.
Still, there have been no documented cases of an actual purge.
It may not send the most positive message, but when people are threatening to take action based on a fictional movie, it makes you want to go see what all the fuss is about. The ending falls short because a few of the major parts of the movie are executed poorly. But it definitely is a movie to go see if you are looking for a decent suspense thriller with a lot of killing and friendships that were not meant to be. Because Anarchy is interesting in many ways, it deserves a 9 rating out of 10.
