The reasons for not being able to pursue a higher education can be endless but the reward of having a degree can make it all worth it, even if that means you might end up in debt. However many people are not aware that there is money out there to help cover the cost of college.

That is why Amarillo College will be sponsoring the Cash for College event on April 16th at the North Branch Library, 1500 NE 24th in Amarillo. This workshop is open to anyone interested in attending AC. They will be helping prospective students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

FAFSA is the application that the federal government uses to award students financial aid based on their income and other factors. Everyone is encouraged to fill out this free application because some scholarships that you may want to apply for will require you to fill this form out.

The application can be a little confusing to some people but luckily there will be financial aid and academic advisers that will be their to help guide you through the process. They will also be helping students enroll in the college and help you with other financial aid opportunities that you may qualify for. You can even register to win a $200 scholarship.

And for those students who cannot complete a FAFSA because they do not have the required documentation but still want to attend college can qualify for other grants.

Maury Roman-Jordan, Director of Outreach Services for Community Link at Amarillo College, said the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) is available to those students who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA. They will be providing more information about this and other programs at the Cash for College event.
