New board of regents members to be elected

The Amarillo College board of regents has three six-year terms and an unexpired two-year term available for election in May. The board is composed of nine people who are responsible for major decisions at Amarillo College.

The regents whose terms end this year are Bryan Poff Jr., Dr. David Woodburn, Dr. Paul Proffer and Mary Jane Nelson.

“AC is awesome, and to be able to be a part of that was a great experience,” Nelson said.

Registered voters who have not been convicted of a felony or declared mentally incompetent may apply to be on the ballot. The deadline to apply for candidacy for the six-year terms was March 1 and for the two-year term, the deadline is March 11. Interested candidates may pick up an application packet from Brenda Sadler, executive assistant to the president, on the second floor of the College Union Building.

The election will be on May 11. Along with the regents election, some school districts will conduct elections for their boards of trustees. Among those schools are Amarillo, Canyon, Highland Park and River Road.

AC students can have a say in who gets elected for the regents board. “Students who are registered to vote can vote for their candidate of choice on May 11,” Sadler said.
