Six people were recognized Aug. 20 for their contributions to Amarillo College and its students with the second annual Faculty Excellence awards. Mark Shadix, a science instructor, was recognized for his excellence in instructional strategies.
Justin came to AC with the help of FM90 and Student Life.
During the Aug. 26 board of regents meeting, Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart was unanimously chosen to be the 14th president of Amarillo College. Continue reading to see what other changes were voted on at AC.

After more than 30 years of teaching and six years as president of Amarillo College, Dr. Paul Matney announced his retirement this summer. Only a handful of students knew Matney had retired, and many didn’t realize AC had a new leader: Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart.
Pull out the candy corn and hang your wreaths, because the best season of all is rolling into town and yes, folks, I’m talking about fall. Ahh, I already can smell the apple cider in the air and watch the leaves change colors. Don’t get me wrong; summer is great and all, but I’m ready to be able to raise my hand without having a nasty sweat patch.
A man was injured on campus leaving the parking lot behind Parcells Hall on Thursday. Witnesses said that the man was exiting the parking lot about 11:45 a.m. while the security arm was up.
Near the end of the spring 2014 semester, the hunt for a new Amarillo College president began. As the summer progressed, the board of regents was joined by faculty members and one student as they Lowery cutoutsearched for the perfect fit. On Aug. 26, Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart was chosen to lead the college as its 14th president.
