Center offers money, career help with clothing and workshops

The Amarillo College Career and Employment Center and Student Money Management Center offer students help in navigating the working community.

“We offer a lot of things,” said Renee Burnam, director of Career and Employment Services. “One of the first things that we have is something called My Plan Assessment.”

ACPD rides latest in style, efficiency

Amarillo College Police Department officers are riding in style in their new battery-powered patrol cars.

In December, the department bought two of the cars, one for the Washington Street Campus and one for the West Campus. Officer Scott Acker, crime prevention officer, said it would not be as efficient to have one on the East Campus because of the layout.

Hughes named AGN Woman of the Year

Linda Hughes, director of Amarillo College’s Conservatory Theater, is known in the community for many of her accomplishments involving theater, opera and more.

Now she possesses yet another title to add to many: Amarillo Globe-News Woman of the Year. Hughes was announced as this 2014 selection in the first newspaper of this year. The esteemed title has been given to many prominent people in the Amarillo community for 40 years. Joe Street, owner of Street Toyota, was announced as Man of the Year.

League of Women Voters to register voters Friday and Saturday

The League of Women Voters will conduct voter registration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 17 at the exit of Sam’s Club located at 2201 S. Ross-Osage. Voter registration will also be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 18 at three United Supermarket locations—the Amigos store at 3300 Interstate 40 East, the store at 3400 River Road and the store at 4701 South Washington Street.
