Q: Syndia Rodriguez, can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
- I am a motivated, self-driven individual who continuously strives for self-improvement and perceives it as a lifetime commitment. I aspire to contribute as much value as I can, as I am dedicated and committed to serving others in meaningful ways. My daily goal consists of generating and developing a helping relationship with those I assist.
Q: What made you choose this position?
- I chose this position because it aligns deeply with my personal mission to serve others in meaningful and impactful ways. I’m a self-driven individual who views self-improvement as a lifelong journey, and I believe one of the most powerful ways to grow is by helping others grow as well. In roles like Student Life Coordinator, Success Coach, FYS Instructor, High School Outreach, and NSO Lead, I have the opportunity to create supportive, guiding relationships with students, whether they’re just beginning their journey or navigating critical transitions. Every day, my goal is to build genuine, helping relationships that empower others to succeed academically, personally, and professionally. This position allows me to do just that; to be present, purposeful, and proactive in making a difference in students’ lives, while also continuing to develop myself. That dual growth, mine and theirs, is what truly inspires me to do this work.
Q: What are your challenges for being the only one to arrange events for Hereford?
- One of the most challenging aspects of this position is being the only Student Life Coordinator in a small community, where there’s limited sponsor interest. As a result, I currently sponsor all three student-led clubs on our campus, which requires a significant time commitment. Balancing that with my other roles, especially when responsibilities overlap, can be difficult to navigate without burning out. However, I remain committed to being fully present in each role and ensuring that students stay at the center of everything I do.
Q: How do you manage to be student life coordinator, academic success coach, and instructor, what is your work balance?
- Balancing the roles of Student Life Coordinator, Academic Success Coach, and Instructor requires intentional time management, flexibility, and clear prioritization. I rely heavily on planning ahead, setting boundaries where needed, and communicating transparently with both students and colleagues to ensure expectations are clear. While the workload can be demanding, especially when roles overlap, I stay grounded by always returning to my core purpose, supporting student success. That mindset helps me stay focused, present, and resilient, even during high-pressure periods.
Q: What is rewarding about your job?
- What’s most rewarding is seeing the growth and confidence in students as they discover their potential. Whether it’s helping a student navigate a personal challenge, seeing them lead a successful campus event, or watching them succeed academically, those moments remind me why I do this work. Being part of their journey, no matter how big or small the role I play, is truly fulfilling.
