If you’re wondering about how you’ll pay for your college expenses next semester, you need to know about the Amarillo College Foundation. The AC Foundation is ready to give away more than 2,000 scholarships to students for the next semester. The AC Foundation is an organization created to concentrate all the awards and scholarships available for AC students in one place. This year the foundation has more than 2,000 scholarships available for all college divisions. They range from $300 to $2,000.

Each year more than 2,000 students are awarded with one or more scholarships. “The AC Foundation is a good organization that helps students with their tuition and books. They care about the students and they care about their education,” said former student and winner of an AC Foundation scholarship, Zara Nourmohtad. She said she used the money given by the foundation to cover some of her college expenses.

“They helped me with my education, they paid my tuition a couple of semesters, and they paid all my books,” she said. “I love it.” Co-executive directors of the foundation, Tracy Dougherty and Kathy Dowdy, said they also have a couple of scholarships that follow the students after graduation, meaning those scholarships are renewable when students transfer away from AC. The only requirement to get one of the renewable scholarships is that the students must attend a four-year university after AC.

To qualify for one of the foundation scholarships, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. To apply online, go to www.actx.edu and click on the AC Foundation section. The official deadline is March 1, but students can apply until Oct. 15. The scholarships will be awarded during the first days of May. For more information, call Dougherty at 806-371-5106 or Dowdy at 806-371-5389. You also can email Dougherty at tddougherty@actx.edu and Dowdy at kbdowdy@actx.edu.
