On August 29, Sabrina Carpenter released her seventh album “Man’s Best Friend.” This project comes one year after “Short n Sweet,” which broke numerous records, eventually leading to two Grammy awards. “Man’s Best Friend” is now breaking records of its own, receiving 64.4 million streams on release day alone, officially becoming the biggest female debut of 2025.

When I first listened to the album, the main thing I noticed was the unique sound, which to me differed from “Short n Sweet” in some ways while also remaining similar. This album contained a mix of pop and country which are two of my favorite genres of music and I found myself preferring it over the previous album. Of all the twelve tracks included on “Man’s Best Friend,” the ones that stuck out to me the most were “My Man on Willpower,” “We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night,” and “Goodbye.”

“My Man on Willpower” was among the list of songs I was looking forward to the most when it came to this album, and it certainly did not disappoint. It is in every way a standout track, quickly becoming a fan favorite with 6.15 million current streams. Throughout the song, Carpenter describes the feeling of watching the man you love become someone who you don’t recognize anymore with lyrics like “can I return it, get back the version I like.” However, it wasn’t just the lyrics that drew me to this song. The overall production was the detail that ultimately got me hooked on this amazing song, as was the case for the album as a whole.

“We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night” is a slower song with a great deal of emotion conveyed in the lyrics. This one tells the story of a toxic relationship which frequently experiences arguments and reconciliations that eventually lead to near break ups, lyrically portrayed by Sabrina as “false alarms.” The storytelling in this song is so unique that I can visually picture the events playing out in my head whenever I listen to it. For these reasons, “We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night” is my second favorite.

“Goodbye” ranks as my favorite song on “Man’s Best Friend” for a variety of reasons. As the last track on the album it was the perfect way to finish it off in my opinion, with Sabrina’s powerful vocals mixed in with the heartfelt lyrics. It is a powerful, cleansing break-up song in which Sabrina emphasizes that the relationship is in fact over for good. The lyrics express both pain and anger in a way that is so beautiful and captivating. Sabrina knows how to tell a good story and it truly shows with this extraordinary song. Overall, I rate “Man’s Best Friend” a 10 out of 10 for the remarkable production, vocals, and lyrics. Sabrina has amazed me yet again and I cannot wait to see what she releases next.
