Amarillo College students have access to free legal services on campus through the Legal Clinic, which provides assistance with a range of civil matters to those who qualify.
The clinic is operated by Legal Aid of Northwest Texas and is located in the Byrd Business Building, room 322. It is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is designed to remove barriers for students who otherwise may not be able to afford legal counsel.
“The free legal clinic provides services that include, but are not limited to, family law, landlord and tenant issues, wills and estates, and access to social services,” said Tina Alexander, a paralegal with the clinic. “We do not assist with criminal law matters.”
Larry Adams, a staff attorney with Legal Aid, works alongside Alexander to handle student cases. Together, they provide individualized support to students navigating complete legal issues.
While many students may not be aware of these resources, the clinic’s presence intends to reduce the stress students may experience from unresolved legal issues. This will allow students to focus more fully on their education.
“We are excited to be here to provide free legal services to qualifying students,” Alexander said. “Please reach out to schedule an appointment, or come by Room 322 in the Byrd Business Building.”
The Legal Clinic emphasizes accessibility by offering services at no cost to qualifying students. Because it is located in the Byrd Business Building, students can access the clinic between classes or during the day.
For more information or to determine eligibility, students are encouraged to contact the clinic staff directly. Students can schedule an appointment by reaching out to the clinic. Adams can be reached at (806) 696-4402 or adamsl@lanwt.org, while Alexander is available at (806) 345-5670 or talexander@actx.edu. Students may also stop by the clinic during regular hours.
