Badger Esports is back for another season of competitions and games with some new and returning teams. They currently host around 30 to 55 Student members but are always eager for more students to join. They have teams participating in games such as “Call of Duty,” “Overwatch 2,” “Street Fighter 6” and “Valorant,” among many others. “Even if you don’t want to play competitively, you can still stop by and play,” Logan Konestco, a business administration major, said.
Amie Christopher, a general studies major said they hope to one day in the next year to get into the teams. However, for now they stick to the noncompetitive options the club offers. “I just play Roblox and maybe VR,” Christopher said. “The Esports department offers games across all platforms ranging from casual games to championship games.
This club, which is currently a part of the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports League (NJCAAE) is a competitive platform for two-year colleges and community colleges. Christopher Petty, biology major and the recently crowned NJCAAE champion is hoping to engage the Badger community with what the club does and at the same time, take what he learned from his previous wins to continue elevating his game.
“I just gotta focus a lot more on making adjustments and really defending the run,” Petty said. “Because at my level, I play a lot of passers, but in the league, there’s a lot of people running, playing a lot of meta and just knowing anything I normally play. And so really being able to defend that easily should really help me just become a way better player.”
Petty also came out on top of a bunch of students from all over the country for the Tier 1 NJCAA championship for the NFL video game “Madden 25.” “When I saw they switched to a new one and saw they had “Madden 25,” I knew that was just something I had to do,” Petty said.
Konestco said for this upcoming semester, they have big goals to accomplish. “We didn’t compete a lot last year because we were still getting used to cohesion and everything,” Konestco said. “We played a couple games last year, but this year, we’re hitting the ground hard, practicing every day, just getting ready.”
Students who are interested in joining Badger Esports can sign up for the team at Parcell’s 415. Students can also join by scanning the QR codes on fliers around campus that connect to the Esports team discord server.
