Hundreds of freshmen storm the campus on the first day of spring semester. Their textbooks and new school supplies are stuffed in their backpacks, and only a couple of familiar faces pass them through the halls.

Everything seems scary, and the cry for help gets louder and louder. Can they find their classes? How can they scan their homework online to their teacher?

Finding books to do research for your classes may be harder as the number of books is getting smaller. All of the questions and problems seem to be unanswerable. The first week of college has felt like a nightmare, but one quick visit to the Lynn Library could make all that go away.

As the number of books in the library decreases, it may become hard to find books that students need.

“It is easy to find the books you need, and if you can’t find a book, the staff is very helpful in giving other options to find it,” said Jacqueline Jacquez, a criminology major.

College Librarian Mark Hanna said library employees had to crunch down the selection of books for more room. Space changes led to the library having around 20,000 books.

Online books, or “e-books,” are available through ACconnect for books students can’t find in the library or for students not able to be on campus.

Students can research just about anything they need to write about, right at their fingertips.

“There is no reason for students not to get the information they need,” Hanna said.

Ebsco is the provider for the online books and also provides research articles for homework papers.

The company provides 45,000 to 50,000 books online for students.

The computer lab on the fourth floor of the library also is a library service for students to use when they need help accessing ACconnect as well as scanning homework to teachers after it is completed.

“We help students learn how to use ACconnect and scan homework,” said computer science major Petterson Pham.

“There is always someone stationed to help.”

Someone always is at the desk to help students with questions.

Students can do homework and projects and also take tests on the appropriate computers in peace.
