The AC Esports team recently announced their joining of the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports League or NJCAAE. The NJCAAE is a competitive platform for two-year colleges and community colleges.
“All community colleges in the nation that want to participate at this level can join and that’s one of our newest things; joining the ranks of these divisions and seeing if we can go out there and win some national championships,” Chris George, esports sponsor, said.
The Badger Esports team has been established for nearly five years, and this new move marks an exciting step for the future of the club, according to team member and business administration major Jackson George.
“With all the work that I’ve done with them and all the different rules changes and stuff that I’ve seen for the season, it looks like they have a really good grasp on what they’re doing,” Jackson said.
With this new addition, AC will now have access to a new field of competition, upheld by a code of conduct that emphasizes fair play, inclusiveness, and integrity. The NJCAAE works to assist with all aspects of the program’s development through materials, professional development, connection, and much more.
“I think it really gives us a nice organization toll for going forward with our program,” Jackson said.
The team is set to compete in 15 of the most popular esport titles in the NJCAAE divisions, pending the formation of the new teams after tryouts are finished.
“I’m more of a helper as of right now, looking to get hired to help esports in the future, but me and Jackson, we were kind of just resetting everything, making sure all the computers are good, teams are made,” Logan Konetsco, business administration major, said.
For students hoping to test out their skills at a new type of program at a competitive level, the esports program offers a variety of games.
“We’re holding tryouts for the next two weeks and there are many different titles: ‘Overwatch,’ ‘Rocket League,’ ‘League of Legends,’ ‘Fortnite,’ ‘Starcraft,’ ‘Tekken,’ ‘Mario Kart,’ ‘Super Smash Brothers,’ ‘chess.com’ and many more,” Chris said.
“We’re really just trying to figure out what players we have on campus this year, because it changes every fall to spring.”
The program is open to all AC students who are wanting to participate.
