Fifteen years after debuting his first single “Alyssa Lies,” country singer Jason Michael Carroll released a new single titled “Tell Me Your Name.”

Carroll’s songs tend to hit close to home and tug at the listener’s heartstrings, at least that’s what they do for me. “Tell Me Your Name,” deals with the tough and heartbreaking topic of Alzheimer’s Disease.

This song comes from personal experience, with Carroll having witness his mother-in-law battle the affliction and the impact that it had on his wife and their family.

When his friend, Johnny Orr, shared a portion of a song, Carroll was inspired to finish the song. The finished product is a highly personal tribute that’s both beautiful and sad.

He said he hopes that the song, like “Alyssa Lies” did 15+ years ago, will bring awareness and help listeners dealing with similar situations in their own family life. I love this song, along with the story behind it.

Everything that Carroll writes is so real, honest and heartfelt. When I first heard this song,
it brought me to tears, as it has for many of his fans around the world.
I love the first verse and chorus where Carroll sings: “There’s days that she can’t recall. From the life that she lived. With some memories she’s better off cause she don’t have to forget. But I get my hopes up sometimes. When I see that light in her eyes. And she says, Tell me your name.”

These lyrics captivate me and cause me to feel many emotions all at once. Carroll has an ability to write and sing words so powerfully that makes me love and appreciate his music even more.

The part of the song that sticks out to me the most is when he’s singing about pictures because it’s a powerful lyric that describes how he and his wife, as well as the rest of their family are helping his mother-in-law remember everything.

“Tell me your name, I know that you know me. You’ve been there every day of my whole life. Come here let me show you, in most of your pictures. That’s me that’s standing right there by your side. Like there in Colorado, the reason we’re laughing. Is you just made a snowball and threw it at Daddy. That man on your left, yeah you were his angel. You might not remember now, but someday you will. That look in our eyes, the smiles on our faces. We’ve got no doubts Mom you were the greatest. So tell me your name. She said, ‘My name is Diane.’”

All-in-all, this is truly a beautiful song with a powerful story that I hope everyone will listen to.
