Carter Fitness Center is starting a new personal trainers program. The class is called Success Through Fitness.Craig Clifton, Tricia Mcguire and Trent Oneal are the instructors. The program is for faculty, staff, students and community members.“We’ve just recently started doing this program,” Oneal said. “We piloted it, kind of, last semester, but this semester it’s gone into full force.” Success Through Fitness is designed to train students to be personal trainers. Once enrolled, students get three personal training sessions with either Clifton, Mcguire or Oneal and full access to the gym, weight room and cardio room. “We offer it through Continuing Education,” Oneal said. “We also offer it in an academic version. “If a student needs Lifetime Fitness credit for their transcript, they can take this class and get that credit that they need academically.” About 50 students are involved in Success Through Fitness. “It’s been a great opportunity,” said Stephanie Carruth, an art and design specialist in College Relations. “With my job I don’t get a lot of student interaction, and this has definitely helped.” The course is designed to teach the fundamentals needed to be a personal trainer.“So far we’re seeing a lot of good responses from it,” Oneal said.Success Through Fitness also can help students learn leadership skills and fitness techniques. It provides access to equipment and training. The class is offered in the spring and fall, and any interested student can sign up.
